I am officially up and running as of January 23, 2012. I'm so excited to get back to what I love doing. I've really missed seeing all of you!

My class times are listed on my schedule page. Please take the time to read through the new procedures, as some things have changed in order to integrate teaching into my home life.

Our Yoga

Welcome to Balance Yoga. Each of us at Balance not only enjoy teaching the discipline of yoga, but also believe it is a calling. We came to the practice of yoga by slightly different routes, but yoga unites us in that we have developed the ability to live in the moment, leave fear behind, and understand and celebrate what our bodies can learn to do. We have learned that yoga is not so much a practice as it is a journey. Even those of us who have many years of practice and teaching behind us continue to grow and learn through our students and your personal journeys.

We try to create an atmosphere in which you feel welcome and able to learn at your own pace. We hope to inspire you to push yourselves a little,but not farther than is comfortable. A new student in the beginner class often sees the progress that other students in the class have made over weeks or months and thinks, “I could never do that.” In that event, we encourage you to have faith in your ability and patience with your progress without unnecessarily comparing yourselves to the progress of those who have come before you. Each of us in the classroom knows and understands where you are, because we have been there! Yogis never forget that progress requires time and grit. Nothing pleases us more than seeing the physical and emotional awakening that new yogis experience.

The health benefits from a consistent yoga practice can be incredible. Some of the potential physical and mental effects include:

• Increased strength

• Increased flexibility

• Increased circulation

• Increased range of motion (especially with joint problems)

• Improved posture

The more you practice the more benefits you experience. There are even subtle benefits, such as the way your relate to others and how you react to life's circumstances. Yoga practice is really the gift that keeps on giving.

We who practice yoga call ourselves yogis. This name applies whether we are experienced teachers or beginning students. Yoga practitioners are athletes who find that the practice helps heal injuries and condition the body; the elderly who want to remain active and strong; children who discover through yoga self-confidence and poise; in short, anyone seeking to get stronger and healthier.

It is the mission of Balance Yoga to help you become the stronger, healthier, and the more balanced person you wish to be.

What do I need to get started?

After deciding which class is best for you, just come in to the studio a few minutes before the class starts to fill out a form with general information, and you are ready to begin. No need to sign up ahead of time. Please be certain to arrive on time for class. Our doors will be locked when the instructor begins class in order to keep our belongings safe.

Will an injury keep me from doing everything?

All of the teachers on our staff have found yoga because of looking for relief from pain of some sort. WE are very sensitive to the needs of each students body. Please be certain to inform your teacher before class of any injuries, particular needs that you may have, or if you are pregnant. She will give each person a way to modify any pose that work best for their body.

What should I bring?

If you have a mat, bring it with you. Otherwise we have them to lend to you. We have props to help to modify any poses that may be difficult at first. Bring a bottle of water to hydrate. We also have them for sale at the studio. If you tend to perspire, you may need a towel for your comfort. We also have them to lend.

I am worried that I will look ridiculous because I don't know what I'm doing.

Everyone has had that feeling at some time. Everything that we do is described in great detail during class. One of the messages that yoga helps us to understand is that we have to learn to be present on our own mats, listen to our bodies and let everyone else feel the same. No one starts yoga being graceful and flexible. Every student in the room has been where you are.

Classes

ASHTANGA is one the oldest styles of yoga known and is both dynamic and athletic. This method of yoga involves connecting a specific breathing technique (Ujjayi breath) with our movements through a set sequence of asanas (poses). We will build intense heat in the body and fill the room with our breath. The result is a stronger, more flexible body and a clear mind. This class is open to students with at least a basic understanding of the poses and a moderate to advanced level of endurance.

BEGINNER ASHTANGA helps to prepare the student for the more advanced Ashtanga class. The instructor works to help each student understand the basic poses and breathing methods to prepare for the faster pace of the Ashtanga class. We provide clear instruction and individual assistance so that you may build a solid foundation for a strong practice. This class is open to the beginner with some endurance or the more advanced practioner that needs a slower pace for a change.

PRIVATE YOGA is an excellent way to start your yoga practice. If you are uncertain about your ability to handle a yoga practice, one or more individual sessions can help get you started. Our teachers can give you the individual attention you need, specifically evaluating your physical condition and recommending which classes would work for you. Your teacher will take you through a complete beginner session, acquainting you with each pose and allowing time for specific questions and concerns.

VINYASA is a westernized composite of several different classic styles. In this class, we hold our poses for less time. We move from pose to pose more fluidly, still with our connection of breathe to movement. This is a challenging and athletic class. This class is open to the beginner to advanced student; again, keeping in mind the class requires a moderate to advanced level of endurance.

YIN YOGA is a gentle, restorative practice focusing on opening the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Holding postures for up to 5 mins, connective tissues are both stimulated and gently stretched, increasing range of motion. Yin yoga is a wonderful addition to any physical practice whether it be yoga, running, cycling or weight training!

PRENATAL WORKSHOP

About Me

Dawn Goebel

I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to guide my students to learn the things that I have learned through yoga. My interest in yoga was sparked by my search for a more natural cure for the migraines that I suffered for years. Not only did yoga help me to find relief from my pain, it restored the physical strength, flexibility and athleticism that I developed amd enjoyed so much during my ten years of ballet training. I did my yoga training here in Cincinnati at Yoga Ah. Amber Espalage (owner of Yoga Ah) was mentored and trained by Larry Schultz, who was the founder of the It's Yoga Ashtanga System.

I am looking forward to bringing my classes into my home. Owning a studio was such a learning experience for me. The studio was beautiful and we fostered many wonderful relationships. I am embracing the new opportunity to focus more on my practice and a smaller work load on the business aspect.

I've been blessed by support from my students, my family,my friends, my staff and my children. Now I want to thank you by getting back to the reason that I longed to teach yoga and build our community by focusing on the practice !

New Year, New Space

The new year is a time for reflection, resolutions and turning over a new leaf. My hope is that we are all ready for just that. Our new space to come together again and is ready for us. Don't miss out on all my yoga classes.

There will be just a few changes in procedures.

•All classes are pre-registraion only as I do have limited space and also need to blend the classes into my home-life.

•You can register through www.cincinnatiyogastudio.com until 1 hour prior to class.

•At least 4 students must be registered by 8:00p the night before a morning class and by 12:00p the day of an evening class in order for the class to take place.

•You will be notified via email immediately to cancel the class if there are not 4 students registered by those times.

•You may cancel a registration by those times.

•Please be sure to cancel your registration by those times in order to avoid being charged for the class slot.

•I will offer 5 class passes for $ 55 and 10 class passes for $100 (both last for 3 months only)

•1 month unlimited is still $120

•You may also just pay per class for $12

•I will accept cash and check only (Made out to Dawn Goebel)

•I will send my address to you when you register for your first class.

My Home

For those of you that don't know much about me, I want to familiarize you a bit with my family life in order to make you a bit more comfortable with coming in into my home. I have 3 children, they are all boys. They are 18, 9 and 8 years old. Taylor is the oldest, Will is my middle boy and Ben is the youngest. I also have a young woman that lives with our family named Lacinda. My husbands' name is Paul. We have a golden retriever named Manni. He just may try to lick you to death, he's very sweet! We have 2 black cats as well. You will likely run in to any or all of them when arriving or leaving your class. They are all ready for Mom to get back to what I love doing. It makes me a better, more patient person!

My house is all the way at the end of our cul de sac. I have a circular driveway that will accomodate all of the cars. When parking, please pull in on the right side and pull all the way up and around to make room for any other students coming in behind you. There is also plenty of parking on the street if you prefer. Please feel free to contact me via email with any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing all of you again!

Additional Information

Avoid eating a heavy meal for 2-3 hours before class. Practice on an empty stomach is also not recommended.

Please remove your shoes before entering the studio classroom.

If class HAS to be canceled due to illness, we will send an email to all students and post on our website.
